Dansimeter is the name given to the device used to measure the density of liquids. A hydrometer typically consists of a cylindrical body with a bulb made of glass, into which a weight made of mercury or lead is added. The liquid to be tested is poured into the cylinder slowly and freely until it reaches a floating level. The point where the liquid surface reaches is noted. There is usually a scale inside the stem, allowing direct reading of the density. Different types of scales are available depending on the liquid being measured. The hydrometer can be calibrated for various uses such as measuring the density of milk, the density of a sugar-water mixture, or high levels of alcohol.
